I couldn't have been happier to be home after spending a week in Silicon Valley. The early morning and evening are still a little bit chilly here in NYC, so a lightweight parka jacket is perfect for this kind of weather. I went through a number of parkas this spring. Many of them feel too thick, but this one has a really nice material and it also comes in regular and petite sizes. I'm wearing a regular size S and I like the oversized look a lot. There is an interior drawstring, which you can pull to make it tighter to show a flattering waist. You can wear it with almost everything like shorts, skirts, jeans and dresses etc.
I hope you girls had a great Mother's Day weekend. Yesterday, I went to the Chanel No. 5 In a New Light exhibit on West 14th St. If you are in New York City and want to check it out, I definitely recommend that you make a reservation online beforehand to avoid the line. I bought a new bottle of Chanel No. 5 after the exhibit, haha. Coco is just too irresistible :) XO

Did any of you girls try to get the Alice McCALL At First Sight playsuit? I've tried a few times ever since I spotted it a while ago, but every time and every website that sells it just doesn't have my size. I still can't get over it and I've been craving that playsuit until I finally found this one, haha. And look at the price, the Alice playsuit is $374 and the one I'm wearing here is only $33. This one still looks so pretty and is available in all sizes. I couldn't be happier with it. I recommend keeping your shoes neutral with this playsuit. These Tory Burch wedges are my favorite pair right now and they are currently ON SALE as well. This spring the beauty of these wedges reached a new level for me, especially the nude ones. I've been advocating the idea of pop color bags for spring and summer. The beauty of any hot pink bag or yellow bag can't be underestimated, especially when you are wearing basic pieces. Pop color bags make your whole outfit really pop like my outfit today, a 7Fam cold shoulder tee with boyfriend jeans. Neon pumps with my yellow Robinson bag from Tory Burch are the perfect match. How cute is this yellow bag? You can either go crossbody or wear it as a shoulder bag. With the straw hat, it's a great outfit for this weekend.

The peacock embroidered tulle dress, the suede gladiator wedges and the drew bag from Chloe are the most romantic and amazing summer uniform. Because of the price, I have been looking for alternatives and more affordable looks that have that carefree and romantic feeling. The crocheted lace trim reminds me a lot of the Chloe girls. Summer has come to New York City a bit earlier than I expected. I wore this outfit and did some shopping in the daytime and went to a rooftop happy hour over the weekend. The open back and the movement of the skirt made me enjoy these weekend events even more. I was feeling very Chloe.
A tip to wear this kind of airy and open back dress is not to wear a bra. I only wore self adhesive pasties underneath. I know some of you might not feel too secure. Another thing I use, though, is Topstick. It's basically a double sided tape for clothes. I put it in between my skin and the dress in my chest area, so that the dress is secure and the front won't fall off or open up even when you are dancing. It actually feels really good to not wear a bra once in a while, definitely feels very free :) What do you girls think? :) XO

THE SUM OF SMALL STEPS

Since I was a little girl, my parents taught me that Rome was not built in one day. I have always believed that success is the sum of small steps. It has never been easy to maintain or improve my blog while working a full time engineering job. But hey, after two years of writing Shall We Sasa, I’m still doing it and am even more passionate about it. I have made so much progress with these mindful small steps and I would love to share some of the tips/beliefs that have helped me achieve my everyday ambitions with you girls.
Believe It Will Happen
Two years ago when I started Shall We Sasa, I was a newbie and I had no idea about so many things when it came to blogging. The only thing I knew was what I was trying to achieve, to bring more useful and helpful information to you girls. If you write down your goal on a piece of paper, read it out loud every morning before you start working and every night before you go to sleep, the chance that it happens is much higher. I also read somewhere that people who visualize their successes on a regular basis tend to be more motivated to reach their goal. In addition, it’s better to have a short term milestone and a more specific goal with the ultimate one coming after the sum of small steps.
Actions Speak Louder
It’s never enough if you just visualize or read your goal everyday. You have to put everything into action so that those who believe in you can help you. Often my full time job is very demanding. If I had said to myself that I’m too exhausted from work every day and I waited for tomorrow, Shall We Sasa would have never happened.
Never Give Up
Because success doesn’t happen in one day, a lot of people give up along the way. I work everyday on the small steps and I repeat, repeat and repeat. Things might not move as fast as you expect, but as long as you are moving in the right direction, you should never give up.
Discipline
Sometimes I work from home. When I do, I try to change into my work outfit as if I’m going out to work. I also try to stay away from distractions like snacks and TV at home. I clean up my desk and only put the things that I need on my desk like in the first picture: laptop, notebook, pens, accessories for me to stay inspired as well as smartwater. Cleaning my desk helps me clear my mind. Good water like smartwater keeps me hydrated throughout the day.
Sometimes I’m working on a post for the next day on the weekend and my friends call me to hang out. Who wouldn’t want to go out with friends on the weekend to just enjoy life and have a great time? But if I have a post due the next day, I choose to stay home to finish the post. It’s not easy, but I tell myself that so many of you are waiting for the new post and the tidbits of information I really love sharing with you girls in a timely fashion.
Stay Positive
It may sound cliché, but having a positive attitude is a major key to achieving success. In good times and bad times, if you have a positive attitude toward everything in life, you are already one step ahead of so many others. One of the things that has really helped me to stay positive is exercise on a regular basis. I exercise every other day, at least three times a week. I especially like running, lots of cardio. Exercise and sweating make me so happy and keep me thinking positively. It gives me the energy every day to go further on my journey.

I have to admit that I really enjoy the feminine look. Floral skirt, bell sleeve top, colorful earrings, hot pink bag and wedges, these kind of cliché I don't mind at all. In fact, I love them. Blue tassel earrings with a hot pink bag are such a vibrant combination. Too bad these earrings are sold out, but if you are looking for something similar, this one and this one are great choices. The floral skirt is currently on sale for $38. The bell sleeve top just sold out, but this one and this one are really similar in style and super cute too. A great way to rock denim in the summer is the denim skirt. I really feel that it’s a summer essential piece that every wardrobe needs. In my outfit today, I Love the slit in the front of the denim skirt and I love the white tee, pop color bag and tassel earrings. In addition to the tassel earrings in my previous post, this is another pair of white tassel earrings that are extremely pretty. I’ve seriously been wearing them almost every day lately, haha. Besides the white tee and top, a double denim look with a denim shirt will look tres chic as well. I’m just so in love with this weekend ready look with the denim skirt and the Paris tee.

I've been obsessed with butterfly sleeve tops and this top also has a dress version. Seriously, the silky blouse is just so pretty. The sleeve with the sheer pink pencil skirt is the ultra feminine combo. You can't go wrong with this pretty, romantic and sophisticated look for a date night or dinners with friends. BTW, the pencil skirt is currently on sale for $42. I played again with vibrant colors for this outfit: hot pink, pink and light blue. One of the best things from last weekend was that I got a little nice tan while I was in DC. It’s not easy for someone pale like me who is too busy to lay out in the sun for hours to get a tan. I have a little secret that I will show you girls soon. If you follow me on Instagram, you probably already saw that this is the dress I wore to a wedding in DC last weekend. You girls know that blue is one of my favorite colors. I'm so in love with this dress, especially with the cascading ruffles. The material of the dress feels very nice and the quality is great as well. If you are looking for something pretty that you can hold on to for a while, this would be a great option. Besides as a wedding guest, I have so many other opportunities and occasions to wear it again.
Before I went to the wedding, I was also considering a few other blue dresses like this one, which has amazing metallic lace details. There is also another blue dress that is more for casual for weekends and it's super cute!

Growing up, my mom always advocated the idea of saving money while still keeping my standards high when it comes to shopping. Being a traditional Asian woman and having her own business has made her pretty savvy in many different ways. At her age, most of her friends have retired already, but she still works a lot and rarely takes a day off. When my Dad asked her to go on a vacation with him and me, she always says to us that she is too busy and enjoys working. I know that she truly enjoys it and she does believe in working hard. These values were indeed passed on to me. Whenever I get to spend time with her, every conversation we have, she still inspires me. I love her and I admire her so much.
Some Sundays we would go grab lunch and spend the afternoon shopping together. I really enjoy spending one-on-one time with her. We browse things together, ask each other’s opinions after trying on different pieces and chat about a lot of things in life too. In the past she has taken me to T.J.Maxx and has told me that I can find great pieces at great prices. She loves picking up clothes, accessories, bags, shoes and home items for friends, my Dad, me and herself there.
While spending time with my Mom in T.J.Maxx, I discovered that I could find quite a few fashionable items that fit me every day for work and yet still stay within my budget like clothes and bags etc. They are actually very stylish and on-trend. You girls know when it comes to style, I’m very picky and specific about what I like. For example, I picked up this work outfit from T.J.Maxx with my Mom the other day, which included a vest, shorts and a clutch. They were great bargains! The vest can elevate your style immediately and is good for both work and going out. I love these cute shorts, which are the perfect length, not too short, great for running around to meetings, going to labs and doing some engineering work at my desk. Foldable clutches are pretty popular these days, I love the style especially the stitches on the side and the color too. I can not just wear this outfit to work, but also can go straight to happy hour after work with this outfit. How awesome!
My last visit with my mom there, I also bought a sports bra, crop pants for the gym and some candles for home. We saw a few very nice ties, so I picked up one for my Dad as a Father’s Day gift and another one for Mr. SF. I can easily find a lot of things I need there at great prices and it just makes my life easier. Do you shop at T.J.Maxx too for a maxx life? :)

Lately, I’ve been going to the smartwater up up up lounge in the WeWork space in their Gramercy location in New York City on a weekly basis. WeWork is an office space that is rented to different creators and companies. When I visited WeWork the very first time, I remember seeing so many different conference rooms occupied by different creators, companies and entrepreneurs. I was really inspired and it made me realize that in New York City, every day there are so many people that are chasing their dreams right next to me.
Every week I spend a day there to do some engineering work, write up blog posts and brainstorm outfit ideas. The eye catching and pretty smartwater lounge was designed by artist Richard Clarkson. Do you see the fun cloud lamps inside the lounge? These cloud lamps have embedded motion sensors to create unique lightning and thunder shows while providing entertainment and inspiration. It’s also a powerful speaker system that can stream music from any Bluetooth device. This magic is based on sensors and code. What a great marriage of technology and art!
I recently attended a Lunch & Learn event at the WeWork space with smartwater’s design lead, Alex Center and artist Richard Clarkson. During the Q&A session, both Alex and Richard shared their inspiration and step by step journey to success. Success doesn't happen in a single moment and it is filled with countless small steps. Have you ever noticed the clouds on smartwater’s bottle? I learned that smartwater was inspired by the way nature purifies water, it’s pure and crisp, like from a cloud. Likewise Richard’s art work with the cloud lamps was inspired by nature. Richard mentioned that inspiration is everywhere, like your memories from the past, trips you took, small things you notice in life and the people around you. The talk has reminded me to pay more attention to things around me, even the small things. I will especially never underestimate the power of nature.
Alex mentioned that passion is another key to success. It’s something that gets you out of your bed every morning. Passion about what you do can create endless opportunities. I can see passion from everyone at WeWork. They’re not just trying to make a living, but trying to accomplish something much, much bigger. Really trying to make a bigger, better life out of their passion. Curiosity is also another key factor, always be curious about what you can do and explore different areas, materials and objects. Keep pushing your boundaries. It’ll make a huge difference.

It makes me look better, appear healthier and when I exercise more, it makes my effort in the gym a little more obvious with the tan. Wearing bikinis to the beach or different types of dresses to concerts, festivals or weddings, the golden glow is just such a nice touch that I can’t live without it in the summer. Unfortunately, winter felt so long in New York, plus I’m a bit pale naturally and sometimes I’m too busy to just lay in the sun for hours, so it’s been extremely difficult for me to get a fast enough tan to welcome in summer.

I want to share some tips on how to use these products to maximize results. First step, apply the primer in-shower scrub and it’ll begin to exfoliate rough patches and prime your skin to get ready for the second step. Use circular motions and pay attention to rough skin areas like elbows and ankles. Use sparingly on dry areas like knuckles and ankles. Then rinse them off. Using it once a week is perfect. Second step, pump the mousse into your hand and evenly apply it over your body. It works perfectly with my skin tone to create the natural glow. It takes about 60 seconds to air dry. Make sure you wait before dressing and, more importantly, you need to wash your hands immediately after you apply the tanning mousse. If you want a deeper color tan, you can re-apply it again the next day. I actually applied it again the next day because of my paleness :P Last step, the tan extender moisturizer makes your tan last longer either from natural sun or from the tanning mousse. Make sure you wash your hands after application and wait for it to dry before dressing. This can keep your tan for up to 7 days.
Do you guys see the glow from my legs after I applied all three products? This is the type of golden glow I want all year long. Now I don’t have to worry about spending time laying out in the sun and the golden life is just an instant away. When I go to summer events and weddings, everything looks great because of my golden glow.
